Version 3 – taking a look back one month later

This of course means we’ve had a lot of feedback from new and existing customers alike. Armed with all this new information we’ve been hard at work, squashing bugs, improving UX, and we’ve even found time to add some new features (!).

Some Stats

Since the launch we’ve released 6 updates to the base plugin, 5 updates to the Pro plugin and 2 updates each to our Elementor and Beaver Builder extensions.

In these combined 15 updates we have:

  • Added 22 new features (!)
  • Created 1 integration.
  • Made 14 improvements.
  • Squashed 43 bugs.

That’s a lot of progress in the space of around 6 weeks!

New Features

There are too many things to cover in one post so I’ll highlight the most notable:

1 Click Install for Extensions

Until recently, and for a lot of plugins out there, extensions are usually seperate plugins that you have to download from your account and then install on your site.

The whole process usually takes around 5 steps: head to our website, login, goto the extensions section, download the extension, install and activate on your site…

We’ve always seen this as a process that is more difficult than it needs to be, so with v3.0.6 we’ve made this a simple 1 click to install:

Hide fields when they’re empty

This was a long time feature request since v2 and we’re glad to check this off the list.

When there is a field without options you can now hide the field completely – including its heading:

Just enable the hide field when empty toggle.

Improvements to WooCommerce fields

We’ve added tons of UI options to our WooCommerce data types including: hiding empty options from fields, showing the count numbers next to options, and ordering the options as well as including and excluding specific values from your fields.

Duplicate fields, queries and styles

Quite a lot of you requested this feature almost immediately after launch, we’ve added this in v3.0.6 to streamline your workflows and enable you to get things done faster!

Multiple ordering parameters and sort order field

We’ve added the ability to add unlimited levels of ordering. You can add multiple levels of ordering directly to your queries:

As well as to your sort order field:

Improvements with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)

When using the indexer with our search and autocomplete fields you can now set any of your ACF fields as a data source – this includes fields inside repeater fields!

More field types supported

We’ve also added support for more ACF field types including:

  • Date and time picker fields
  • Taxonomy fields

What’s next?

Documentation

Right now we’re focused on documentation. It’s a little lacking, but now we’ve finally got over one of the busiest periods since our inception all focus is on documentation.

Over the next few weeks expect to see tons of docs added, as well a bit of an overhaul to our whole documentation section.

Integrations

We are working hard on some integrations that you all have requested, and I’m excited to say that our Polylang integration is almost ready! Oh, and we have another one in the works as well that will make many of you quite happy — more on that to come!

The v2 migration tool

In around a month we’ll begin work on our v2 migration tool. This will make upgrading from v2 a lot easier, and less of a manual process.

The upgrade will never be completely automatic, but we will be able to convert your v2 search forms into v3 queries + fields – we’ll share more information as we make progress.

I think I’ve covered most of the significant updates since our launch, better get back to writing the documentation… Keep an eye out for our next update when we’ll have some exciting news about our integrations.

Until next time!
